Job Description:

Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant  (SL-3)

Salary: $42,000-$45,000

International Student & Scholar Services is a busy, creative office committed to providing quality services and programs to more than 2,100 international students and scholars from 90 countries.   The International Health Insurance Coordinator has the following responsibilities:

Administration of the mandatory SUNY International Health and Accident Insurance Program for International Students and Scholars and participants in Study Abroad. Enroll international students (both currently enrolled and those on post-completion optional practical training), study abroad participants, visiting faculty and research scholars, and faculty who are traveling abroad in the health insurance program. Process insurance payments from faculty and research scholars. Maintain enrollment rosters, reconcile invoices for payment of premiums to the insurance company. Track re-enrollments and partial payments. Provide assistance with health insurance claims. Process insurance adjustments for qualified individuals. Consult with the health insurance company and local health care providers as necessary. Maintain office hours and walk-in hours. Attend meetings, give presentations at Orientation.

This position reports to the Director of International Student and Scholar Services, part of the Division of Student Affairs. Will also supervise a graduate assistant.

 

Requirements:

Bachelors degree, along with at least one year of relevant professional experience, are required.

Also required are:  proficiency with database tools and Excel spread sheets; ability to communicate effectively through oral, electronic, written and print media; ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and coordinate multiple tasks and priorities. Must be creative, energetic, organized, task oriented, and articulate. Must have excellent numerical, analytical, and computer skills, and be able to meet deadlines.

Ability to problem solve, show initiative, develop liaisons with health care providers and the health insurance company, explain complex information so that it is more easily understood, and show sensitivity and discretion in discussing health issues. Must be able to follow government-mandated procedures to maintain medical confidentiality, share workload equitably with the International Health Insurance Assistant, and be able to work well with individuals of diverse languages, cultures, and ethnic groups.

Previous experience and an understanding of health-related issues, such as how health insurance works, are very desirable.
