Job Description:

Budget Title: Senior Staff Associate (SL-5)

Salary: $80,000-$84,000

The Division of Student Affairs at Binghamton University is establishing a Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) to serve as a hub for campus civic engagement and to facilitate productive collaboration of students, faculty, and community members for public and university purposes.  The Director of the CCE will lead efforts to establish the Center and advance its mission, overseeing the Center work with faculty, staff, students, and community partners to create experiential learning opportunities with public benefit.   Responsibilities include:

Support development of service-learning courses and experiential learning opportunities.    Expand/coordinate network of faculty and community members for collaborative learning/service.  Develop projects with local agencies; collaborate with campus teaching and learning initiatives.

Increase campus participation in community service activities.    Publicize CCE. Develop database/website of community service and engagement opportunities in Greater Binghamton; promote involvement through student organizations.

Pursue external funding/nominate programs for state/national awards.    Identify opportunities, apply for grant funding, and oversee projects. Nominate programs for awards.

Develop and strengthen campus-community partnerships.  Support community-based work-study programs.  Build cooperation with academic departments and centers on campus.  Develop and host events to explore community assets, needs and issues.

Advance scholarship of service and civic engagement.  Conduct research and collaborate on scholarship/research that studies processes/impacts of outreach work.   Program assessment/evaluation.

 

Requirements:

A minimum of a Masters degree is required. 

  • An earned doctorate strongly preferred
  • Preferred degree in Education, Public Administration, Political Science, Social Work, Human Development or related field
  • Proven ability to secure external funding
  • Experience in the administration of community-based or service-learning programs at a college or university
  • Experience as a teaching faculty and with the integration of service-learning into coursework
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and supervise staff
  • Managerial experience
  • Knowledge of the role of civic education in higher education
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships with faculty, students, staff, and community leaders
  • Organizational and operational skills to plan and oversee programming and assessments
  • Research experience in field related to the CCE's mission
  • Working knowledge of experiential education, community-based research and service learning
  • Collaborative work style
